Our First Deminar

Such a nice turnout for our deminar at Vogelsangs. Instructed by Michelle Delgado a guru in the ASCP world. She went start to finish with a chair explaining the "Texas Two-Step" method. She explained many tips and techniques to extend the coverage of the paint and the wax and different techniques that can change the look of what your doing with a simple change in brush stroke or application of different waxes. This demonstration was invaluable to those who came. We look forward to hosting another deminar with Michelle in about 5 weeks.

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Is Here!!!

Hi, welcome to my blog.
My Name is Mike Christiansen. I am the manager of Vogelsang's Antique Emporium as well as a furniture maker and refinisher. Yes, we do sell Annie Sloan Chalk Paint, but this blog is not about just selling you a product. This is about opening you up to a new passion be it a  hobby or business. Take the time to go along with me as I share my rebirth in to the refinishing world again.

I got my first start in the antiquing world by repairing and restoring antique furniture for my mother who had a space rented in an antique mall. As her business began to grow I found myself behind the front counter instead of behind a pile of sandpaper and stain covered rags.
Together we have built her business up to a great success and I have now moved on to managing the Antique Emporium that we have grown in over the years.
Even with the Success of the business I still have that urge deep in me to be creative, to give life back to that old antique furniture that has lost its way and found itself in a home without vision.
With limited time outside of work, I have not been able to fulfill that void of working with furniture. Although recently a fairly new product was brought to my attention, Annie Sloan Chalk Paint.

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint (ASCP) is a remarkable product.
Enabling you to give furniture, cabinets, entire homes a new look. From rustic country to french 18th century and everything in between, ASCP will bring creativity and beauty to a new level in your home. Not only are your design ideas limitless with this product, it takes all the time consuming prep work out of your project, leaving you with the fun, artistic part.
ASCP allows you to paint over any surface without sanding, scraping, stripping etc. Veneer, lacquer, latex, enamel, wax, oil. metal, fabric are all surfaces easily painted over with no primer coat needed. With that said, there are times when prep work is beneficial but not required. If the surface you are going to pain is chipping, loose, flaking, gummed up etc, some light sanding may be in order. The paint will still cover surfaces with these issues, but you may not get the desired texture or finish you would like with the underlying surfaces that are in such poor shape. Then again, painting over such surfaces may bring you the texture and look of distress you desire on your piece.

With 29 pre-made colors available and the ability to mix the paint to create any color imaginable, as well as using wax, texturing and glossing and glazing agents the possibilities are endless.

I will continue to share my adventure in the world of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. I will share my ideas and techniques as well as keeping you up to day on new products such as the new color Antoinette (not yet available) and various skill level classes and free deminars (Demonstration/Seminars) that will help educate you enabling you to get the most enjoyment and success from ASCP as possible.

I encourage your questions as well as share your stories about your own introduction and success with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. Share your tips, tricks and techniques. If you have information about events, classes, deminars in other areas around the state or country, feel free to share them with us all and help the ASCP community grow.
